Publish Your Story

Do journalism that makes a difference.

A CloseUP story spotlights a person who has gone out of his or her way to make the community better. Our CloseUP Stories are high-quality, in-depth journalistic pieces written about people who inspire you.  Writing a CloseUP story is an opportunity to recognize someone in your community who is making a positive difference in a publication with an international audience composed of users from 86 countries. Unsung People has also been featured by the University of Virginia, NBC29, and Cavalier Daily.

How can you get your CloseUP story published?

Fill out the form below explaining who you want to spotlight and why. We will get in touch with you soon once we have approved your CloseUP proposal. We will also provide any suggestions for interviewing sources and writing the story. Once you submit the final CloseUP, we will publish it on our website.

What are the requirements of the final CloseUP story?

  • Interview the subject of the story. In your article, you should have a few direct quotes from the person being featured. You should also interview additional people who are impacted by the subject’s kindness or know the person being featured so you can present a varied and deep profile of the subject.
  • Submit a few quality pictures on the person being featured, or any related pictures that would be relevant to the CloseUP story.
  • Be genuinely inspired by what this person does. We will not publish any CloseUP stories that come across as inauthentic or as promotional material for a particular organization.
  • Your final CloseUP should be 600-1000 words.
